Guide
This page includes many of the
most common hints and tricks, as well as some of my own advice on how to
successfully accomplish your goals in RCT.
Roller Coaster Tycoon

Dinky Park - Youll
find it rather difficult to manage a park in the small space that you begin
with in the Dinky Park scenario. The key is to look to the near by lake for
additional land to purchase for your park. After you have purchased the land
that you wish to buy, you will then have to buy the right-of way to
the newly purchased land and build a path or several paths to join the two
sections together.

Fiasco Park - Fiasco Park
is a moderately complicated park that can cause a few headaches off the top.
The goal for this park to have 900 people on your park with an approval rating
of 600 by the end of October year one. Being one of the shortest scenarios,
this doesnt afford you much time. The first thing Id suggest
doing is shut down and then demolish the Death Slide immediately!
If you dont shut it down youll learn the hard way because people
on the slide will begin crashing and dying left and right. If you choose
to repair it, just keep in mind that there is a limited time span and there
are other repair that are needed in the park. I typically replace the slide
with one that I have made for previous parks. Next on the steepest hill on
the Wooden Rollercoaster delete some of the track and make some slight changes
in order for the train to be able to complete the circuit. I also changed
all of the inspection times to "every 10 minutes" just because of the age
of the established rides. Finally, check and make sure you have paths connecting
to the entrances of the other existing rides.

Theming is your friend. When
I first started to play RCT, I thought the theming aspect was a waste of
time. On the contrary. Theming can enhance the excitement rating of particular
rides and improve the over all look of your park increasing the number of
guests who come to your park
-
When building your own roller
coasters, try placing a section of brakes at the end of the ride somewhere
near the station platform. Set them to about 9 or 13 mph. This
will slow the train and in the event of a "station brakes failure", will
prevent one train from crashing into the rear of another.
-
If/when you start a campaign
to advertise your park or rides, you have the option to choose how many weeks
you want the ad to run. The default number is two weeks. However,
we suggest that you choose between 4 and 6 weeks because it takes some time
for it to gain momentum and if you choose a lesser number, it will expire
before you begin to get a good number of people in your park.
-
When you use planters and flowers
to enhance the beauty of your park, try to place them next to or near paths
so that your handymen can get to them to keep them watered.
-
Place benches, rubbish bins,
and bathrooms at or neat the exits of wild rides. This will allow quests
who have gotten ill from your rides to rest and feel better and avoid making
a mess of your paths.
